Melbourne Wins 'War of the Grand Slam'

Brisbane - Plans usurp the rights of Sydney host Australian Open from the hands of the Melbourne ground. Grand Slam tournament committee stated that Melbourne will still be the host.

Contract Melbourne as the Australian Open organizers will expire in 2016. Although still eight more years, the Sydney make strategic step with the express interest to take over the right host.

Since held in the year 1905, Australian Open and had several times changed the city providers, including Melbourne, Sydney, Adelaide, Brisbane, Perth and even in New Zealand. However, Melbourne continues to be the host since 1988.

The organizers, Tennis Australia, is now negotiating with officials at central state of Victoria (where Melbourne is located) to discuss improving facilities at Melbourne Park. They believe the proposal will be approved for the sake of Australian Open remains in Melbourne.

"We are organizing a business study to find out what is needed in the future. We are very happy with the way operating there (Melbourne)," said Tennis Australia Chief Executive Steve Wood as cited by Reuters.

"We will implement our contract with Melbourne. We have been running well with the large growth in Melbourne," said the Wood.
